Stephen Pollard is a Canadian born artist with an extensive background in lighting, video and set design for concert tours. Over the past four decades Stephen has had the good fortune to tour internationally and design concert productions in collaboration with a diverse group of well-known musical artists that include Linkin Park, Adele, Herbie Hancock, Psychedelic Furs, U2, and Simple Minds. His passion for music guides his creative ambitions.
Stephen creates untitled mixed media, non-objective artworks inspired by images that have captured the beauty of his live show designs. At the heart of his work are the light, colour and composition of his designs and the energy of the live music that inspires all his creations.
Stephen extracts and manipulates fragments of these images. He coaxes details out of contexts, distorting their scale and resolution. The results are further cut and pieced together. They are applied in layers on to bold colour fields, manually reassembled with ink, pastel and acrylics. The results are distilled, tangible hybrid versions of his original live creations.
With these works Stephen strives to capture moments of visual magic and the ephemeral beauty that is experienced in his live stage shows. With his art he brings these fleeting moments permanence.
